Juvenile Arthritis Walk

Attention all Department members!!

Steve Hemphill member of Station 12 has asked for our assistance in this very worthwhile cause. Please read his information below and help where you can.      -Fire Chief Joe Davis
There is no cure for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and very few people are even aware of the damage and deformities it causes to children.  There is a chance for us as a fire department to jump into this and help make a difference.
My daughter was diagnosed with JRA at 20 months old and started chemotherapy soon after and is still on chemo.  My family has decided to help other families going thru this same experience and have signed up as advocates for  the JRA foundation.
There is a Walk for Arthritis in Houston on May 22nd. It will be a 3 mile walk, so about an hour of someone's time.  We are looking for people interested in helping us to make a difference in these children and their family's lives and walk towards a cure.
Below is a link to Payton Hemphill’s webpage, those of you that want to donate time and energy sign up for the walk, if you are able please donate on her sight so she can hit her goal.

The Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide signature event that raises funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability.

The Arthritis Walk® kicks off in May during National Arthritis Month in more than 300 communities nationwide to fund arthritis research, health education and government advocacy initiatives.

Participants walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis. People with arthritis wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. The event features a three- mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. In many communities, pet owners are invited to bring their dogs along for the walk.

By joining your 2010 Arthritis Walk®, you become a part of the Let’s Move Together movement, a nationwide effort that encourages people to move to prevent or treat arthritis. Start moving today for better health!
